Inhaled corticosteroids for asthma, for example, reach lung surfaces directly, reducing the rest of your body's exposure to them and leading to fewer side effects. Corticosteroid drugs — including steroids cortisone, hydrocortisone and prednisone — are useful in treating many conditions, such as rashes, inflammatory bowel disease and asthma. But these drugs also carry a risk of various side effects.

We’ve seen that a small dose of steroids can help boost energy to where patients can have a better quality of life. It’s important to note that in the case of treating fatigue, steroids aren’t affecting the cancer, but they’re a valuable tool to help improve your energy level as you're going through cancer treatment. While the FOR-DMD study is looking at dosing, there currently is no information around the maximal dosing of steroids in Duchenne.

An injection of a corticosteroid directly into an individual joint can reduce inflammation and pain due to arthritis.
